OK, so in the absence of OH being offered a $100K job at Apple at Cupertino (unlikely, but you never know) I've decided that I'd rather make my own 'plans' happen before I"m geriatric. Or at least get started.
So now I"m thinking my way through the consequences of applying for the program I want into and how that would work:
1)Apply
a) get in = yippee
b) not in = b^gger
2) Jack in job - Yippee
3) find part time work that is moderately interesting
4) work my buttocks off at the course
5) be brilliant
6) better future
All good things except 1b which may lead to despair and wailing.
How to solve that one - I am still thinking.
Deadline is 31 Dec. if I'm applying.

Okay--I took a look at that pattern--I think your dog would shoot you for that--he'd probably grow opposable thumbs just to figure it out. Definitely go for the higher education...if you want it for you.
I thought I'd expand on plan A and plan B
Plan A
1)Apply
a) get in = yippee
b) not get in = bugger = Plan B
2) Jack in job - Yippee
3) find part time work that is moderately interesting
4) work my buttocks off at the course
5) be brilliant
6) better future
Plan B
1) spend rest of year sorting out mortgages, planning permissions, architects and builders
2) build extension
3) once built extension, fill with one (1) kid
4) yippee
